DS-01 Split | Devil Saviour Construction Combiner

ToyGeek code: DS01-SPLIT

New third party company Devil Saviour (formerly known as Bombusbee) introduces DS-01 Split.

This figure is part of the Devil Saviour combiner called Troublemaker, which will be a complete set of seven figures combining to create Troublemaker. A very interesting alternative over the ongoing Studio Series version.

This is a very impressive and detailed rendition of Mixmaster with a lot of details and a beautiful deco with some dust and weathering. The design has got some liberties and modifications compared to the original movie design, but the result looks great in both robot and alt mode.

Note: Other figures shown sold separately.

Broke apart in multiple places while attempting to transform into vehicle mode, wheel hinges snapped off, feet wouldn't stay together that becomes the bumper, mounting pieces weren't lining up correctly, won't snap into place with the vehicle hood. Other parts were falling off because they were falling off. It became a infuriating struggle the directions for transformation are confusing where I have to rely on YouTube tutorials to get properly transformed to no avail.

I personally wanted another one that's not faulty, but now it looks like I have to wait.

The detail and the craftsmanship is by far superior to anything I've ever seen!! With that said... like the rest of the reviews it is VERY fussy and complicated to transform!! So bring your A game when buying this one! Aside from that... absolutely worth the price!

I would like to give 5 stars to Devil Saviour robots, however I will give them three stars for the following reasons:

Pros:

- Great detail in all the modes.

Cons:

- The fragile parts are extremely fragile while the stiff parts are extremely stiff and could affect your fragile parts.
- It is very easy to find defects in your robot when you receive them.

In the case of Split, the detail is great: the dirt in the wheels and doors give the vehicle mode a very nice look. However, t
he articulations at the leg are quite loose and it is a real challenge to make it to stay on its feet in robot mode. In fact,
I would go as far as the transformation is not the hardest part, but setting it on its feet. The transformation is not that hard: once you get the rhythm of it, it becomes easy to go from one mode to another. On the fragile section, at the moment of writing, it is the sturdiest of the currently available robots (at the moment of writing, only Split, Giant Axe, Compressor and Overload are available); however, it is also prone to defects: The robot I received had a defect on the T junction that holds the legs together in vehicle mode that require some filing in order to make it fit.

In conclusion, mixed thoughts about it: Good detail, but quality assurance is not that good.

Measured against what I’m looking for, this figure is just awesome! However, I will not deny that all the criticism you will find in the various reviews is appropriate.
You receive the figure in robot mode. By design, it is in my opinion not the best-looking Transformer, but the figure is as movie-accurate as it can be and from that perspective Devil Saviour has done an outstanding job to execute that appearance. As good as it looks, though, the possibilities for dynamic posing are very limited, mainly because of the way the hip joints are executed. They are either clipped in for standing positions or not clipped in and flopping around. In addition, these clipped joint don’t hold together very well and disconnects quite easily, cause the figure to crash into a full split position. If you wish to display this figure in robot mode, you will want to do so on a grippy surface to prevent the feet from sliding.
The transformation is indeed very challenging, but I’m an engineer by nature and profession and don’t mind a good challenge. Following the instructions PrimeVsPrime provides in his YouTube review, I was successful in transforming this figure into turret mode and then into vehicle mode. I will admit, though, that this took me hours, including multiple instances of taking deep breaths and several times of stepping away from the task. Especially getting the mixing chamber panels aligned took a lot of doing and I finally got there when I paused the video at the point where PrimeVsPrime shows how all the joints should be aligned and focused on replicating that alignment.
I could have done with the turret mode, to be honest, but I do think that it actually looks pretty neat. The truck mode, however, looks absolutely spectacular and, to echo a comment in Golden Sigma’s review, put a big smile on my face once I got there! The emblem you add at the very end is just the icing on the cake! As most others, I’m collecting these figures to display the set in Devastator mode, but I’m very tempted to purchase another copy of this figure just to display in truck mode. I have not transformed this figure into combiner head mode yet – that won’t happen until I have all 8 figures together later this year.
I will add that, along the way during transformation, I shaved several tabs to get some of the joints to snap in properly and I actually completely cut off the most rear one of the three pins on each side for the front wheel fenders to get the fenders to properly line up to the bodywork.
In the end, coming up with a good rating for this figure is a bit ambiguous. I’m very happy with it for my purposes of display and don’t mind the cumbersome transformations, but it is definitely not great for play. I’ll go with 4 stars.

I’ve been collecting official and 3rd party figures for 13 years, and out of the hundreds if not thousands of figures I’ve messed with or purchased, none of them will compare to how purely awful this figure turned out to be. I knew it wouldn’t be good, but Nothing will ever top how absolutely terrible, fragile, infuriating, and floppy this pile of garbage is. It took all of my goodwill and sanity just to get this thing from bot to head mode (yep, he comes in bot mode) and I swear in the name of everything good that I will never convert it to anything else ever again. The devil saviour figures improved after this, but this figure is so purely unpleasant that it almost ruins every other figure in this set. Yes, it’s that bad. If you want him to complete the set, go for it. If not, save you and your loved one’s souls by staying far away from this expensive heap.

I’m absolutely stunned at the amount of detail in this figure. I’ve been waiting for a masterpiece-quality movie Devastator for a while now and I’m so glad these were made. I will say that the instructions are not the best, so I got lost about 10 times, yeah, 10 times. But I powered through and as everything came together, I could not stop smiling. Highly recommended. Can’t wait for the rest to be released.

Yes the things you've heard about it are true, but don't let that stop you. This is a beautifully detailed figure and if you can master its tricky alt-mode more power that way. Definitely going to be an awesome piece in my collection.

I’ve seen 2 YouTube reviewers mentioning their figures having screws too loose that popped off or parts that aren’t meant to pop off, pop off, but luckily my copy of Split has held together fine. It could be because I haven’t transformed him yet. He’s way too over engineered and he’s staying how I got him out of the box until I get the rest of the Devil Savior figures so I can combine them. My figure has some loose joints but it doesn’t bother me much because once he’s just a giant robot head, none of those joints matter anymore. I also wish he had rubber tires, but beggars can’t be choosers.

TLDR: I heard of other people having problems with their Split figure, I’ve had none except some loose joints. But those joints don’t matter once he’s in combined mode.
