This guy is perfect. I mean just perfect. Looked great in box and better on my toy shelf. Fun transformation and a solidly built figure.

One of the coolest pieces I've ever owned!

Lots of diecast, posable, has both Breast Warrior animals (the other version only has the 1) and just generally superb. Added some Decepticon logos and he's now ready to kick-ass.

I'm sure the HasLab one will be good, but based on their Star Sabre it'll be *fine*... a bit plasticy, a bit 'meh'. This model just rules - my only minor quibbles are that the Tiger Breast can't form a bow (unless you really use your imagination) and without either Tiger or Eagle Breast, Deathsaurus' chest is just a little too small and lacking detail. Otherwise excellent.

Articulate, built like a tank, & cooler looking than the Haslab version, not to mention cheaper.....

Another Home Run from MMC with this beauty. Hefty weight, solid ratchet joints and killer sculpt/paint apps.

D-Zef Continuum has been my first experience with third party Transformers toys, and so I don’t really have much to compare it to. I do have friends who almost exclusively deal with third party stuff, but I’m not intimately familiar with their collections. So I guess what I’m saying is take this review with a grain of salt.

My initial reaction after taking D-Zef out of the box was just how sturdy it was. He’s a hefty figure and I feel like I could throw him down a flight of stairs and he’d be alright!
The combination of quality plastic pieces interspersed with die cast elements gives it a solid structure but also provides great balance. I don’t feel like I need to worry about it tipping over, in most poses, in either transformation.

Next is the attention to detail.

There are so many great design choices that went into making this. I wasn’t interested in the first version Mastermind Creations put out, because I’m not familiar with the comics version which it was based on. And other G1 Deathsaurus figures for sale are a bit outside of my price range. But this G1 redesign was exactly what I was looking for and it’s hard to list everything I like about it.

Probably most notable is the vastly different (cartoon stylized) wings and the delicate detailing of the new head sculpt. Of course, the monster alt mode is no less spectacular.
My favorite Transformers toys are those that don’t turn into vehicles, but rather objects or other just plain weird alt modes. So Deathsaurus has been on my radar for awhile but he’s not a character that typically sees a lot of new releases.

Sidenote: as a Godzilla fan I love that his alt mode is a crazy amalgam of Mecha Godzilla/Rodan/Gigan.

All of this is to say that the artistry and engineering that went into this alt mode did not disappoint. The opening beak, detailed spikes on the neck, toe spread of the taloned feet, and the overall poseability of the D-Zef monster are all very impressive.

Even the included accessories show the quality of this figure - matching the same durability, detail, and design of the figure itself. The only accessories which I might warn buyers to be cautious of are the chest armor minions. As the breast plate for the robot mode, the minions fit together nicely and attach solidly to the figure. But the individual minions are a bit delicate and their transformations are surprisingly intricate. But even mentioning this here is more of a precaution and not from any first-hand concern.

And speaking of transformations, the robot to monster conversion was surprisingly easy. Although I highly recommend jumping on YouTube and watching the official MMC how-to video, as the instructions which were included, were useless. Ha!

Transformers toys these days are engineering marvels which never cease to surprise me and the designers of this figure did not disappoint. Again, I don’t have a ton of experience with these things, but some of the mechanics of the D-Zef conversion are genius. The ease with which some of these pieces fit together and detach, and how well they stay in place - seems like wizardry. Specifically the robot arms transforming into the monster legs, is impressive.

Overall the D-Zef is well worth the price, especially if you’re looking for a G1 representation of the good ol’ Emperor of Destruction, although it has now become the most expensive Transformer in my collection.

I don’t know that I’ll be buying another one in this price range any time soon, but also I certainly don’t regret it!
