MP-47 Hound | Transformers Masterpiece

ToyGeek code: MP47HOUND

trong>Scout’s honor

Get ready to explore the furthest reaches of the earth with the magnificent Masterpiece MP-47 Hound figure from Takara Tomy Transformers. This entry in the Masterpiece line represents a tremendously faithful recreation of the beloved Autobot scout, adding extra depth to the character and his legacy. Whether he’s exploring the earth for the fun of it or protecting his friends in battle, Hound is ready to join your masterpiece Transformers collection.

Featuring significant attention to detail, this figure looks as if he stepped straight from the screen. Hound’s G1 cartoon accurate color scheme of olive green, gunmetal gray and gold highlights is fully intact in his robot mode, while his overall look is completely modernized. His alternate mode—a military jeep with a removable tan canopy—looks good in both form and function. This remastered version of Hound is also fully poseable and extremely articulate, while his alternate face plates provide a variety of emotions for when he’s happy (smiling) or furious (screaming).

This beautiful masterpiece scaled figure stands 6.5” tall in robot mode and is loaded with accessories like Hound’s hologram technology, alternate face plates and more. Hound’s hologram gun is here, along with a hologram effect for the gun and a fully articulated hologram version of Spike you can use to recreate your own legendary scenes from the cartoon. The real Spike is also included, along with a spare gas tank, a side mirror and a detachable gas can for Hound’s alt mode. Spike fits right into the seats of Hound’s alt mode, while his hologram gun fits securely on the back of the vehicle. Hound transforms intuitively between modes while offering a significant value via his accessories and durable construction.

I have at least 7 Masterpiece transformers and love all of them. I want to love Hound but I can't transform him any more. He broke TWICE during the first transformation. I was not pressing against the joints at all. Matter of fact I was moving the part WITH the joint in the correct direction it was supposed to go. Had to glue one part in just so he can look presentable in robot mode. The plastic on this one is CHEAP.

Hound was one of the best masterpieces I have bought. Does have some very fragile parts to him, like the tailgate.

I know how good this mp looks. I'm warning anybody that's going to buy this thinking the qc issues have been fixed. The material is cheap. It will break unless you want to have this on display and never transform it, then you'll be okay. Stay away from this.

I was very anxious on getting Hound after hearing all the stories about how brittle he is, and after getting him I feel like either I just got very lucky with my copy or many qc issues with him were somehow fixed.

He's got an ok weight to him, somewhere between Sunstreaker and the datsuns but I feel it's appropriate for him. The plastic doesn't have a bad feel to it either surprisingly.

The transformation is pretty neat for the most part but can be frustrating and terrifying at times cause with how brittle most copies seem to be, it feels like the whole things going to crumble with how much force you need to use, especially on the feet and around the shoulders. I can only speak for myself but even after applying force that I would've thought would've broken this figure, nothing broke or fell off. My best advice is don't bother trying to transform him with all the extra car bits like the gas can, it's just more pieces to worry about getting in the way, and just take it slow.

Besides that, everything about him is great, especially articulation and the engineering in some places. It's a shame all the qc issues overshadow what I think is one of the best molds we've seen yet by far in terms of cleaning kibble, toon accuracy and articulation.

But know that I'm giving it a 4 based entirely on my experience, as it seems like I was extremely lucky with copy. It's a real gamble, and if you're not willing to risk it, I'd absolutely say wait for the KO with die cast. Once you get all the crap out of the way, it's easily worth your money.

Anyone who says this is brittle or broke it transformed it incorrectly. This is well built and spot on. Great job

Amazing piece of engineering, getting the wheels and other accessories incorporated into the transformation and hidden away while not in use in the other mode.

Hound was the first Autobot car I got back in the 1980s and I'm thrilled with the MP version.

I am not a huge fan of the last few Masterpiece toys and the overly cartoon look. I like the early, more blended G1 toy and cartoon look with a realistic vehicle and a fun transformation. Hound does look good in Jeep mode. The rear gun looks a little silly and has too many joints so it can stash in the leg in robot mode. Weirdly there is no place to stash the handgun in Jeep mode, and to be honest, looks so stupid. I'd much rather have a gun that looks more like the toy had. The transformation is terrible and there are so many weird panels and overly complex bits to get just right. The robot mode looks very cartoon-like. I am not as big a fan of this look and would prefer something like the WFC look and colors. Also strange is that we now have another scale of Spike figure. Does this means Hound is not quite to scale with MP-10 or other recent figures? Not a big deal either way, just strange. The faces are fine, the other accessories are fine if on the silly side. The soft top looks good but didn't quite fit on the toy I received.
I'd not recommend this toy. For the price and poor look and feel of this Hound, you are better off hunting down a nice third party figure for your collection. I really wish I had done that.
To sum up, the handgun is lame. The robot and coloring is okay, if overly cartoonish. The Jeep looks nice. This is one of the poorest Masterpiece toys made to date.

Foot hinge is ridiculously fragile. I have over 100 masterpiece and third party TF without ever breaking a piece. I feel like quality from Takara is really slipping.

May 13, 2020

Hound looks great in both modes, he isn’t the simplest or highest quality. After all the other reviews on this guy I may never attempt to transform him again as I currrently can’t find any stress marks and don’t want to risk an accident

MP Hound is outstanding. His transformation is challenging and fun. He includes a lot of cool accessories and has the total G1 toon look. Was so happy to buy him. Thanks TF Source!

Nice figure, cool transformation but 2 different joints in his right leg were broken out of box for me. Was still able to transform, carefully watching a vid. But quality leaves a lot to be desired

So I’ve had this figure since January and it’s been sitting in my shelf. I decided to set it up in a new pose and the shoulder missle just fell off and the joint broke. So now i have to super glue it back together. I read that Takara had been using untested plastics for this this figure. Well they should have used reputable plastic instead of this brittle trash.

Love this Hound. I have MakeToys Gundog and FansToys Willis, Willy, what ever they ended up calling him, and both of those are great figures in their own right. I still favor FT's myself, but for great toon accuracy this MP Hound has it hands down. I know there is a lot of reviews talking about how fragile some of the parts are, and they are right. But if you take your time, be careful and patient, and don't try to force anything then you shouldn't have a problem. I highly advise that you watch a video of the transformation so you can see where you need to be careful. I'm not a fan of how the prices of all the MP's seem to be almost doubling in price, but I guess as long as we keep paying it they'll keep raising it.

Hound is a good figure. Looks great in both forms. Plenty of good accessories. Some great ingenuity on some of the transformation parts.

The big fault lies in some fragile parts that if your unaware of can be very breakable. Other reviews will point this out. I watched a tutorial on how to get around it just to be safe. If you know to look out for it, that is an easy workaround.

The other big fault is on the price hike. Even most retailers are not happy with the mark up. They are making this series a lot less appealing especially with some awesome third party figures out there for cheaper.

Less fragile parts and a lower price point would have given this a higher rating.

February 10, 2020

He look great in truck mode but I have never seen is robot mode because he can't make it that far. I just received my second Hound because my first ones leg broke in half. My second one came broke when his door just fell off! I'm not new to this I have at least over 15 Masterpiece and none of them have broke. He can not make it to robot without breaking. The second one never made it 5 minutes out of his box before he broke. I'm extremely disappointed with this figure. If this is how Takara is taking there MP I will take my money else were. Once again I'm no stranger and I own several Takara MP but this one is the worst of them.

January 26, 2020

Looks great in vehicle and robot mode. Transformed from jeep to robot with no problems. When I tried to transform it back to vehicle mode, both of the jeep's back panels (the ones that hold the spare tire and the gas can) broke off. Based on the other reviews here, I'm clearly not the only one whose had this type of problem.

It's a good thing that it looks good in robot mode because there's no way I'm going to try and transform it again. For $160, this is very disappointing.

I think this is a beautiful figure. The accessories are numerous and thoughtful. Most of which harkens back to some of the old G-1 episodes I love so much. I will say the feet transformation scared me to death based on previous reviews but if you take your time and look for the small groves those panels slide into when folded up you'll be ok. I recommend you watch Emgo's review, dont use the instructions. With that being said I'm not planning on pushing my luck. I deduct 1 star for the lack of Hound's rifle, and find myself wanting a substitute. I love the super toon accuracy and feel my figure arrived painted beautifully. Your mileage may vary, but I'm glad hound could join my 1984 Masterpiece shelf.

Mp Hound is a very fun toy.Yes I do see some weak points but all you need to do is just be careful and don't force it.Watch video on how to transform. His accessories are also fun and the articulation is great. The way Takara is doing things right I wouldn't be suprised to see an Mp Jazz come out in the near future.

Takara gets a 8.5 out of 10. Great sculpt, great articulation, great accessories.

Knoxville, TN

January 16, 2020

Looks great, super toon accurate, fun transformation, bit the materials are lacking. I really wish they would have used stronger materials especially for the price. It feel light and easily breakable. Not sure how often I will transform him.

Eureka springs, AR

January 16, 2020

He looks like Hound but is poor quality. Paint applications are sloppy and thick. There are sprue marks everywhere and numerous hairline cracks at key joints on the feet and neck where the plastic is very brittle on the hinges and tabs. Be cautious.

January 16, 2020

Overall, I am very happy with this release. The "floating head" actually does fine. The Jeep mode is nicely done--i kept him in this mode for a few days because I liked it so much---BUT I accidentally broke off that back door panel during transformation (my fault) so I won't be transforming him back....le sigh. Just a bit too delicate in that joint. Didn't even hear it break, just came off like a piece of soft cheese. The other foot I did just fine. That being said, I still think it's great. Paint, accessories, overall feel. Definitely a favorite. I still think Sunstreaker is the best I've seen on all fronts. Just be sure not to mix up the steps when doing the feet on Hound. Watch a video and study the instructions carefully. It's so good I might buy it again. Just kidding. 160? Nope. If I was rich--yes. Definitely worth a go.

Wesley chapel, FL

January 15, 2020

This figure looks great in both modes. A perfect cartoon representation. However the materials are cheap, thin, and easily breakable. Mine arrived cracked and broke again while transforming. I keep my figures in bot mode so I could glue them into place, but these cant be flipped back and forth. Insane kid gloves need to be used.

Portland, OR

January 15, 2020

This guy looks great. Unfortunately, he is also unspeakably fragile. Both a leg panel and a foot panel broke off during my first transform of him. I am not at all inexperienced... I get that some of these are delicate, but this guy is just absurd. The connection points that the pieces were to pivot on are less than a millimeter thick. How is that plastic supposed to hold up?

Mundelein, IL

January 12, 2020

This Hound ticks all my boxes.

Looks great as a robot. Everything tabs together and makes a solid toy with great articulation and no real kibble. Only a steering wheel.

Looks great as a Jeep. They really hit this as hard as the robot mode. I was expecting it to be good, but it almost looks like a model in it's level of detail. It is solid. Everything tabs in and there are no inherent weak points in the use as a toy Jeep outside the plastic tires not rolling on smooth surfaces.

Engineering is top notch. If you were impressed with the solid nature of Sunstreaker, and the general appreciation of how every scrap of unseen interior was packed in both modes with bits that moved intuitively between modes to secure firmly, then Hound will please you there.

Accessories are plentiful and no real concern of mine.

His paint job is great. Careful. Paint chips. We all understand that paint chips are part of masterpiece and care is required. I have escaped any paint chipping in a dozen transformations, but I am very experienced.

Buy it. If you don't then you don't need a Hound. This is the definitive Hound. Doesn't get any better for a collector.

Rochester, NY

January 12, 2020

This is a great figure, the transformation is very cool but he is missing his gun, blaster, laser whatever you want to call it, the other MP versions of this figure, Fans Toys, TFC, Make Toys all include a rifle even the G1 figure had a rifle. I was disappointed to see this very important piece missing from the figure.

Boise, ID

January 11, 2020

An Onion isn't kidding - the back door panel that holds his feet together in vehicle mode snapped off with very little force the second time I transformed him. Hadn't been out of the box two hours and now he's going straight in the trash.

Newington, CT

January 09, 2020

Can't say enough about this figure. Best Takara MP in a while.
Aesthetics/Sculpt 4.5 stars. Sculp is spot on. Proportions great in both modes. Paint is a lil flat. Could have used a lil metallic fleck or sheen. Otherwise perfect.
Engineering 5 stars. Fun, surprising intuitive transformation. Plastic feels light with small hinges but they are all surprisingly strong and all the tabs and bits fits in a way that reinforces the figure's structure.
Accessories 5 stars. Lots of fun bits with storage for them bot on the bot in both modes and in the soft top. Finally a Spike that is more size accurate and doesn't fall apart.

Highly Recommend

January 05, 2020

Bravo TT, he’s beautifully accurate to the S1 cartoon more so than the Fans toys (my second favorite Hound. I couldn’t be happier with this guy in both modes. As the other review said though just transform with care.

St. louis, MO

January 03, 2020

BE CAREFUL. More than any other masterpiece transformer I own, this guy needs a delicate touch. He looks great in robot and alt mode. Basically perfect. But there are some pretty small hinges on the legs and you need to be extra careful not to stress them. Oddly his neck does not peg into the roof in robot mode, which can be kinda weird but it looks fine honestly. Paint is fantastic and accuracy is amazing. Just, again, be careful.
