Full disclosure, this guy reaped his way into my collection as part of my first foray back into collecting TF toys. As such my opinions may be a little murdered by this guy :P
That being said this guy is, IMHO, pure, unadulterated awesome in a legends scale package.
I never owned (nor knew of) black shadow as a kid, but man does this figure bring me straight back to my childhood love for transformers :D
You may balk at the nearly $50 price tag for such a small figure (nearly a standard ball-point pen tall for size comparison) but he oozes love and quality from every part.
From the lavish and artful paint apps to the wonderful sculpting to even just the plastic quality, this guy screams "deluxe collector's toy". The posse-ability is pretty sweet and, despite some tight joints here and there, you can get him into some really menacing or action paced poses!
Throw in a (not included) stand and he is even more fun to mess around with as is befitting an areal gun for hire ;)
The transformation is nothing special and an objective look at the underside does just end up being a folded up bipedal robot. But the kibble integrates pretty seamlessly (and kind of adds some fun imagination opportunities) into the jet shape.
Be aware that the wings tab in to get into the right shape and the arms then tab into those wings. Getting this JUST right can be tricky the first couple of times (especially for a novice like me) but with some practice it is no big deal.
A pleasant fan-mode you can undertake thanks to the engineering is that you can get a pretty sweet "gerwalk" mode out of this guy! I had another TF as a kid that could do this too and man was it such a fun, if fake, triple changer! Macross and Robotech fans will know what I'm talking about but it's basically a messed up jet with arms and legs, and it is glorious in my opinion!
Throw in tons of play-pattern with the weapons, beautiful clear red plastic (that looks way sweeter in person than in these pictures) and you have a figure I just had to have and have been loving messing with as a desk toy.
You'll have to decide if the price tag is worth it to you, but for me, I could not be happier :D
