So, this figure looks good and is a nice lower budget MP Megatron but I do have some gripes with it. So, while going into gun mode the part that becomes his stomach and has all the blue and red details broke off while trying to peg everything together which sucks but hopefully i can repair it with some high strength glue. In addition, I struggled to get him firmly pegged together in his gun mode which probably led to that part breaking so be aware that it's hard to get him fully tabbed together so try to not use too much force. I wish that the legs and feet clicked into place in robot mode because it's hard to pose him and not have them slide up. Overall, this is a nice figure and a good alternative masterpiece Megatron that is not as expensive however it could use some changes like making stuff tab together better and stronger plastic that can handle some force. If you see this guy on sale like during Black Friday which is when I got him I think that's a good time to get him just be patient with him so you don't break anything like I did.

The best looking, most solid figure its size that I own. The transformation is fun and takes significantly less time than other g1 Megatrons, thanks in huge part to the TWO copies of clearly printed instructions. Beautiful articulation in robot mode, and exactly as many accessories as I want in a premium figure.

Only complaint might be that the cannon slot in the robot mode is a little loose. The hinges when transforming are a little worrisome (the whole bot breaks in half it it breaks) but hasn't been a problem yet.

Let's get my problems with this figure out of the way first:
I really wish his side skirts plugged in at the back. They aren't loose, but still kind of fiddly. Really takes away from the feel of the figure IMO.
The barrel on his back doesn't plug in either, and this is a much bigger problem. Again, it's not loose, but it should definitely be tighter if it isn't going to plug in.
Something about the feel of the joints is off-putting to me. He's still fun to pose, I just wish some of the joints felt a bit better. This one is totally subjective.
The chain on his mace is about twice as long as it should be, it just drags at his feet. But idk, maybe you like that.

Alright, onto the good stuff, and there's a lot of it.
This guy is highly articulated and even has an ab crunch. He can get into almost any pose you could want. Just wish getting there felt a bit better.
He looks amazing next to MP-10. I'm all for the cartoon accuracy vibe that Takara and 3P companies have embraced, but some old-fashioned artistic license is welcome. He isn't a perfect cartoon representation and he doesn't want to be, and I dig it.
All that silver paint looks outstanding, and it seems to be pretty durable. I put him through a pretty rough first transformation and he still looks pristine. And those chrome red eyes really pop.
Totally subjective, but I love how big his fusion cannon is.
For being an older third party figure, his faces are teeming with life. Fantastic sculpt work on them.
If Mp-36's transformation scared you off, then you're in luck. This guy's transformation is no cakewalk, but speaking as someone who owns MP-36, it's a lot easier, but still enjoyably complex.

Overall, he's really nice to look at, especially next to MP-10. The faces, paint job, big ol fusion canon and super blocky look just make this guy a treat. A bit less fun to play with than he his to look at, but not by a whole lot. Assuming you can't get MP-36, this guy is gonna be a good alternative. Or maybe you just want a counterpart to your old MP-10, or even just want a new Megatron for the hell of it. No matter what, you'll like him.

This 3rd party version of megs is awesome. I like the bulkyness and the over all design. Gun mode looks beautiful as well as the robot mode. The articulation is dam good on all limbs.

Now for the disappointments. The lack of acessories is bothersome for me. It would have been awesome if this megs came with the longer barrel attachment and the handle attachment. Also, the beam sword and his little gun. Pretty much the stuff Takara's version came with. Heck, I would have been satisfied with the gun mode attachments. Hopefully someone or make toys themselves make an accessory pack. Another problem is the sliding mechanism with the legs. There isn't a lock of some sort. I forsee this being an issue later.

Other than that. A very good alternative from Takara's over priced toys. If anyone would rather Takara's mp line, be aware of KOs. Do your research before buying.

THE BEST VERSION OF THE TYRANICAL LEADER! Only complaint is this toy can feel a bit loose due to the heavy upper metal parts making this toy very top heavy. Never the less, a beautiful work of art!

I love this figure. He's just a huge Megatron with very cartoon accurate proportions. He stands Masterpiece height and is very weighty, thanks to a decent amount of die cast in him and some high quality plastic. The silver finish is just absolutely gorgeous. He can be a big fiddly to pose due to how his feet are, but that's not a huge deal. He's big, silver and imposing and looks great in any collection. His alt mode is pretty accurate to a Luger P38, though it's very much oversized due to the size of the robot. It's almost comically oversized. But that's OK because it looks great and it's a great representation of Megatron's original alt mode, minus the flash suppressor. Transformation is enjoyable, with a lot of clever tricks that make both of his modes look great with no compromises like extra bits hanging off either mode. He's just perfect and I'm so glad I added him to my collection.

Purchased 2 of these on sale. Keeping both of them MISB. The boxes were mint and in pristine condition. Looks so good on the shelf.

This Megatron figure is very nice overall. He looks really good; personally I even think the proportions are better-looking than his G1 animation model. Transformation is also interesting; complex but not hyper-complex.
There're also problems. He really likes to lean forward. Besides, his knees aren't well locked in place (his thighs can often slide down). These issues are fairly annoying because they have a direct effect on posing.
He was once quite overpriced, but I got him on sale, so it's still a good deal.

Over all it's not a bad figure and a dame good looking Megatron. Though it does have some issues. The most common issue people will have will be with the legs, you slide them down but there is nothing to click/lock them in place so they can and most likely slide down while posing/playing with it. Same thing for the ankles, these are the most common 'problems' everyone will have with this.

Now I have one-three problems with my copy of the figure. The biggest one being the trigger guard, right out of the box it was 'broken' a easy enough fix with glue. My second issue which is a minor thing, the gun barrel is loose and can easily flop but with him just standing in a pose it's okay. My third problem is when transforming him to gun mode it doesn't lock down, like something is blocking it and keeping it from going flush.

Over all a good figure and if you can get it at a discount like I did it's worth the money. Has a good bit of diecast, a total of four faces to swap between, and a clear purple mace that has a metal chain. And he looks good beside my MP Shockwave, so I do recommend this figure but just be careful if you can get one.

Very solid figure! Was a bit on the fence because I already own several versions of Megs and was not looking to add him to my collection. Boy am I glad I did! Hefty, poseable and shelf presence. If you get the chance, don't pass this guy up!!!

I ADORE this figure. It's about as good as you can hope for when it comes to a MP Megatron figure. It's solid in both bot and gun mode, and it's a joy to transform. I would absolutely recommend this figure, especially at a discounted price!

It transforms the way it's supposed to. It's not overly complicate but challenging enough that I enjoyed changing it from robot to gun mode. I love the silver color. It's solid in both modes. It's a good price and alternative to the official Hasbro/Takara MP.

So,not new to the third party crowd but this is my first Maketoys figure and, woah! What a figure! Love the alternate faces and he is a bulky figure with plenty of articulation. In my experience with 3rd party figures there is usually something that stands out as a negative. The only thing I can hold aga6thos guy is how many moves it takes to transform him. But that being said, who cares? It goes to show how impressive the engineering that went into this guy. Get it!

December 08, 2018

I just got him on sale. I have the X-Transbots Apollyon, which was my second MP Megatron next to the first Takara version. I liked Apollyon, but it wasn’t perfect. The Maketoys version is better. The legs look cleaner, and the transformation is slightly better. The lower torso/hip area was problematic for me. I got it right eventually. He is kinda blocky looking, but I am happy with him, especially at the sale price. I miss having the silencer and the shoulder stock. For the price, compared to MP-36 Megatron, Maketoys is tough to beat. Megatron is a tough figure to do right. Despotron is not totally perfect, but I’m very satisfied. Get him now, a MP Megatron is gonna be VHTF at this cheap.

Im new to third party after about a 10-15 year absence from toys and memorabilia of any kind and I am very impressed

Ventura, CA

January 27, 2018

This is such a great alternative to MP36 Megatron. He is of similar size and looks very similar. All i need now is a decepticon decal to put on his chest and he won't look out of place along side my MP Starscream and Soundwave.

However his shoulder joints are very very loose. he can't hold his arm up at all when holding his canon, and only just barely with out it. If you twist his arm a certain way he can hold it up, but he cant do anything like a power fist.

Aside from this still an amazing figure.

I was waiting for the arrival of mp36 and wasn't impressed by it's price point and fugly back side.i like dx9 mightron but from the waist up only, apollyon was a great first attempt but has several qc issues.so I went with maketoys despotron and boy am I happy.i wasnt sure if I would like the head sculpt from numerous pics but this guy in person is just awesome, the light piping make the eyes glow a menacing red and really looks good.the figure is really solid, awesome engineering and has a nice weight to it.next to mp 10 prime they look like they belong together fighting battles on cybertron.highly recommended if your on the fence like I was.you will be extremely happy with this guy.

I recently got this masterpiece! He is much nicer looking to me then the official mp. He is not animation accurate but he looks bad @ss!

January 10, 2017

Despotron has a fun, complicated (50 step) transformation sequence. Good luck unstowing his head without some kind of tool for leverage though.

Robot mode is quite a bit blockier than I anticipated, even after having watched a number of review, but this doesn't create any obsticlea to articulation.

Alt mode is comically oversized. I am not a small person, but I can scarcely reach the trigger and I'm a good inch shy of the trigger guard.

Also of some importance, while this figure does come packaged with an orange plug inserted into the barrel, it is not at all affixed and can be pulled right out.

The packaging gives no indication that the alt mode is a firearm look alike, but if you're concerned about whether you order complies with federal regulations about that type of thing, you may want to keep ithat in mind.

December 05, 2016

Interesting and clever transformation, Lots better than Apollyon.
My only gripe, is Robot mode pistol's barrel behind his back is kinda cheesy and loose. Needed a peg in the back to hold firmly in place.
Otherwise, its a good beefy robot and (oversize pistol).

Can be a masterpiece of toy in year, but struggle a little bit during the transform. It will be great if can get LED cannon instead of original one.

Redondo beach, California

November 03, 2016

Hmm, no. It doesn't blow away X-Transbots Apollyon in every aspect, considering that came out a year before. But this one is still an excellent figure on its own. Transformation is completely different which I appreciate. I now have two amazing MP Megatrons on my display. ... and a third slot for Takara's soon.

Maketoys.... You actually got it right!
For years I've been looking going thru multiple reviews looking and waiting for the correct version of Megatron and Maketoys Despotron is it... The details on this guy are amazing and I love the extra 3 facial expressions... The joints are extra tight and the posses are very strong...Plus I really appreciate the extra grip on the feet. the oversize gunmode reminds me of holding the G1 Hasbro Megatron as a kid... I simply love it! And, the transformation is actually nice on this guy.... the pieces flow very smoothly at least on mines.... Simply to say I'm beyond pleased and Maketoys version was definitely worth the wait... If you haven't gotten this guy... you are truly missing out!

October 13, 2016

I was stoked when Despotron arrived. Maketoys designed him pretty accurately to animation in robot mode. Joints are tight. Took me almost an hour to transform him to gun mode. Only issues not all of the tabs on the gun handle panels line up to their slots. The left side doesn't line up all the way. Sticks out a bit. Gripping the handle the panels aren't tightly secured. Still a great version of Megatron in robot mode with three changeable faces, spiked mace and a long target scope fusion cannon. Hope there's an add-on kit.

Bossier city, LA

October 12, 2016

he has great ratchet joints in the shoulders and legs; the weight is proportioned well and the detail is outstanding...by just looking at him you cant tell but not one part of him is identical...a lot of parts are specifically designed for a involved but fun transformation; it sucks he does not come with the p38 pistol accessories and the hammer portion in the back of the leg is difficult to get in and out this is the only reason I gave him 4 out of 5. I guess we'll see an upgrade kit coming soon! The robot mode is solid as hell and the pistol mode is solid too.

Memphis, TN

September 15, 2016

I was sold on this as soon as I saw the colored pictures but it is even nicer having it in hand. The figure is sized perfectly with all of my MP Transformers and from every angle it looks so great it's almost hard to believe it can transform into a pretty nice (oversized) gun mode too. To go with that, Despotron is extremely well articulated so you can pose him in so many ways with amazing stability he puts a lot of other non-transforming figures that are known for extreme articulation to shame, doing so with almost all joints looking very natural in any pose.
He also has 3 extra faces all with great expressions that fit the character really well, and a ball and chain spiked mace.
I do wish he had the extra sniper parts to really make gun mode look even better but the figure does what it should do so well overall I can look past that.
Transformation as you would expect is somewhat complex, but easier than any other offering of this character at this scale I know of and it is actually pretty fun and well thought out.
I am very happy with this purchase.
