It's really faithful to his MTMTE design and that's what makes it great! Transformation's a bit fiddly but that's just because the figure is so small. The ratchet on one of his legs is loose though. Other than that, nice addition to the IDW shelf!

Worth the price

I got this as my first ever transformer, so I'm brand new to collecting! When I was first trying to get this I found it very hard to figure out which version of Hurricane (Cyclonus) I needed to apply the upgrade kit too. (For anyone wondering/having as much difficulty as I did, its the Reveal the Shield, Battle in Space kit. It works best with him.) That being said I also found many of the complaints in the rest of the review true. The Skirt Piece, while looking wonderful, removes the ability to pose Hurricane (Cyclonus), and the sword is to small and requires sanding.

The face plate it's self is pure silver, which is to be expected as the toy is small and the fine black details can be hard to make. But, I ended up doing them myself. I'm an armature at painting but even with my limited skill it turned out great! Looks just like the comics!!

My only other real complaint is that Rear End (Tailgate) has a very loose hip joint, so his legs often turn completely backwards, and balancing him on such a easy to move joint can be a bit hard.

But over all I am completely satisfied and adoring these products! I would recommend them to any first time or experienced collector!

This "upgrade kit" is great, while the Cyclonus figure it "Upgrades" is long gone, the Tailgate portion of the kit is great! He's slightly flimsy because of his size, but he's a great display, fun to fidget with.

One thing worth note! The sword portions of this kit for Cyclonus works with Kingdom Cyclonus!

This figure is to accurate scale with MMC's IDW figures so you can complete a collection of Lost Lighters with this figure.

This is the first figure I've bought, and Rearend is really charming, he's fun to play with and can do a good range of poses, he does have some small issues like paint application not being fully where it should be, and his waist section is dimpled looking as though there was a pouring issue. Transforming him the first time was a little tricky, but it gets easier once he loosens up and you know what you're doing. Cyclonus is. Okay. The sword absolutely does not fit in his hand unless you sand down the edges. (for quickest fit, go at the corners and take it slow, you can quickly take off too much). He isn't the most posable, but that is mostly because of the figure used as a base for the upgrades. (and mine was secondhand so maybe the straight out arms with no bend is just a me problem) The skirts definitely limit movement as other reviewers have noted. However, I'd say if you just want a nice tailgate, or can deal with Cyclonus just standing there looking pretty it's a good overhaul to his aesthetics and about as comic accurate as you can do without destroying your wallet.

A nice little toy with a high-quality upgrade kit included. Really happy to have one of my favorite duos sitting on my shelf now.

My first foray into 3rd party transformers, and certainly not my last. Rearend looks like he leapt straight out of the pages of MTMTE!

He has excellent articulation and tight joints, with only a little looseness in one ankle that isn't even an issue. He's capable of very dynamic poses. The plastic quality is excellent, and I can't find even the smallest error in paint or decal application. He can also hold accessories securely in his itty bitty hands.
Transforming him didn't make me think I was going to break him, which is always a plus.

Cyclon--I mean, Hurricane's parts don't /quite/ match up to the generations figure in colour, but it's not super glaring, and they make for a great (and fairly simple to screw in) IDW update that also adds some very necessary rotation to his wrists! The kit doesn't hamper transformation, though the samurai 'skirt' limits leg articulation somewhat.
It was also easy to add some black to his cheeks and under his eyes to make the look match his IDW self a little more.

Overall: great buy, beautiful toy, and i'll definitely be picking up some more crewmates for him from the manga mech line. (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑

This little fella is too cute for words! stands firmly even though he has the smallest ankles ever, Cyclo- I mean Hurricane looks fantastic with his new head, but I panted the cheeks on mine to add extra contrast

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

Well Packaged, aesthetically pleasing.

REAREND: This is the figure that should have been packaged with Trash-Talk... But he's here now, so all is forgiven. He's just as cute and pathetic as you want him to be... He's actually a head shorter than Trash-Talk or Cogwheel, with a more complex transformation. It's pretty involved for something so small, making some stiffer moments of the transformation a little hard on the fingers... Not a big deal though when you're rewarded with a figure that stepped right off the comic pages... The "Bomb Disposal" decal was a cool little detail too... Love this guy!

HURRICANE: This kit brings a great old figure back to life with a vengeance! The colors match up, it looks great, and the installation was kind of fun... As others have said, the hands are a bit tight and won't properly hold the sword without some light modification. This is surprising from a company with a reputation for A+ quality control, but it's a minor issue, and shouldn't stop you from picking this up.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Of all the 'fighting robot' companies out there, Make-Toys is absolutely putting in the most effort where character is concerned. The thought behind who gets packaged with who, or what accessories will be included suggests these are designed by hard core fans. Keep'em comin' guys!

This set is great for a fan of MTMTE as it provides a really good not-Tailgate and an awesome upgrade for classics Cyclonus. I had some trouble tracking down a good Cyclonus (I suggest putting in the time to look for one in mostly purple as the other version clashes too much) but in the end I’d say it was worth it. Applying the upgrade pieces is very straightforward but please learn from my mistake and work in a non-cluttered area in case you drop one of Cyclonus’s screws. Mine suffers from a production issue: the hands were too tight to hold his sword. I tried to ream the hole out a bit with a drill but ended up going over by just a smidge so the weapon would just rest in there without any real grip. Ultimately, my solution was to just use his previous hands because they can hold the sword just fine and you don’t lose much articulation. Your mileage may vary but for me it was a pretty big frustration!
There isn’t really much I can say for Rearend; he’s just a good figure with good articulation and clear attention to detail. Heck, they even wrote “Bomb Disposal” on his arm. How cool is that? The extra bits (busted up legs and “freaked-out” head) are nice inclusions if you’re going to be displaying him or taking pictures. His transformation can be a little bit fiddly and I still have trouble lining up the legs and arms properly, but that’s fine. He rolls well which I appreciate.
Overall, I really enjoy this set and for the price, I’m willing to put up a five stars. The main draw backs were finding a good Cyclonus and the issue with his hands not holding the sword. I managed to rectify each situation so in the end I still feel good about this purchase. If you’re a fan of the MTMTE comic I think you’ll enjoy this set quite a bit for how well it pays homage to those characters.

This is a great upgrade kit for anyone who's a fan of the MTMTE comic series. (And seriously, if you're not, you should be)
Tailgate is near perfect to his comic self, and the additional head and damaged legs are a nice touch.
The add-ons for Cyclonus are also great, although they do limit his leg movement slightly. The sword fits pretty tight in the hand, but is much easier once it's gone in and out a couple times. It would have been nice if they'd included both single and double horned versions of the head, as the broken horn was eventually fixed in the comic.

It is a lovely toy. Extremely comic accurate, stands well on his own and very poseable. The Kit upgrade to my universe Cyclonus was easily installed and simple instructions!

The price is fair the toy is great the add on kits does I great job of fixing and giving you new display options for a nearly ten year old toy without them limiting movement or completely covering the original toy

I honestly got this set entirely for the Hurricane add-on, and was sadly pretty bummed out about it.

The thigh pieces aren't really clip-on pieces as described on MakeToy's Facebook page, but are part of a larger screw-on tailpiece that flips up and rotates over to cover the thighs. The way it's designed completely prevents the legs from moving forwards or backwards, and only allows for side-to-side movement.

Also, the included replacement hands can't actually grip the included sword; they'd need to be drilled out further to accommodate the sword's hilt. (The hands do, however, grip Nightstick.)

I was initially planning on selling Rearend and just keeping the Hurricane parts, but I found myself unexpectedly impressed with him. Rearend is super well engineered, massively articulated, and the paint apps are super crisp - he's ridiculously high quality!

Tl;dr: I was so impressed with Rearend that I decided against selling the little guy, but the Hurricane parts are so "meh" that I might have to resort to obtaining some other upgrade parts for my Cyclonus.
