Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 Soundwave Gold Color Edition | Transformers Asia Exclusive

ToyGeek code: ASIAE-SOUNDWAVE-GOLD

This Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 Soundwave Gold Color Edition is a throwback to the days of Soundwave the cassette player, now reborn into a non-functioning version of today's technology a Xiaomi Mi Pad 2! Soundwave transforms from a non-functioning Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 to robot and back. This is an official collaboration and licensed product of Xiaomi and Hasbro

Figure stands 7.5" tall in robot mode, and is made of ABS plastic.

Soundwave transforms from an officially licensed Mi Pad 2 tablet to a Voyager-sized robot in 30 steps. The transformation is accomplished through a series of clever folds and wraps to achieve a three-dimensional robot mode from such a flat and thin alternate mode.  He is armed with a large blaster rifle, a shield, and even a Ratbat like figure is included.

All around great figure. It fooled a lot of people. The transformation sequence is one of the most interesting aspects of this figure. Highly Recomend

I added this to a big order because I like weird novelty robots, and at thirty bucks, why not take a chance? That chance paid off. Right away I was impressed with the sturdiness. For a completely flat figure, this does not feel flimsy. This is good plastic, smooth hinges, nice little ratchets, and just the right amount of tabs to hold everything together.

The pad mode isn't going to fool anyone, but the robot that comes out of it is surprisingly nifty. There's some especially clever origami in the legs to give them weight, and huge feeties make him stand solidly. The chest is so simple yet looks striking. And I don't know why I am so in love with the fact that his head assembles from three slices.

If poseability is your thing, you might want to pass. He can't do much more than stand there. And yes there's partsforming (though the backpack can stay on during transformation), but this does mean the guns can plug together into a nice rifle. Also, I'd worried the shield would seem awkward or out of proportion. Nope, looks fine to me. He ends up not looking very much like Soundwave though. (No shoulder mount? Really!?) So I just think of him as one of those random devices given life by the Allspark.

Minor qualm: my figure didn't come with a back panel to cover up the robot bits. Not sure if this was a fluke or if the gold version just doesn't have that.

At the cost of a Voyager, this is absolutely worth it. The transformation is straight-up fun, and it's the sort of figure you can put on display and people will ask, "What IS that?"

Now jokes aside, this guy is just a great purchase while it Is on sale and I recommend getting him while you can.

This version of Soundwave has some clever little transformation bits to him that get you from a really good looking Tablet form to a sleek slender bot mode.

Picked this up just because it was cheap and looked neat to be honest. Kind of taken aback by the engineering in this thing. Transformation to robot was easier than I thought, and back to tablet took way les effort than I expected.....and it locked together so tight later that day I confused it for my actual 7" tablet. very cool piece. glad I snagged it. looks good in my oddball category shelf. :0)

At first glance this figure seems odd but after a bit it becomes apparent that it is really cool. Soundwave transforms into a tablet instead of a tape deck as the look takes to a more modern aesthetic. The tablet mode has tons of panel lines on the screen, do to the fact that it has to transform, and the back is basically the robot but I prefer that it is designed that way as to avoid clunky and odd shell pieces. The back can be hidden with an included slip cover that hides the robot bits. The tablet is some hybrid of Apple and Samsung products but otherwise is very convincing. the transformation is slick and fairly simple while getting the job done while showing off some clever design. The robot mode is very good looking and looks great and unique on a shelf with other figures. He includes a shield, a gun, and a detachable backpack piece which can be used as a Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, or Ratbat despite the instructions showing it as a part of the main robot. Very cool and unique figure. I would recommend this highly for anyone who is looking for a unique addition to their collection.

Not the coolest robot ever but amazing that they managed to pull this off at all.

Also, strangely addictive transformation. I find that I keep going back and forth with it over and over

On first image, you're going to think, this guy looks nothing like Soundwave, and you'd be mostly right. He looks more like the ROTF Bayformer Soundwave than any classic version, but don't let that dissuade you from what is otherwise a really cool figure!

Right out of the package he looks like any other imported tablet you'll find, but with the screen already cracked, plus the advantage of being just as much of a fingerprint and dust magnet as it's real world counterparts. The back of the figure is an obvious robot, unless you choose to use the plastic sleeve he comes in as a cover plate that lines up just right with the tablets camera lens. Transformation is pretty straight forward, just fold everything that you can, and viola! You've got a clever little Decepticon, complete with Laserbeak? shield, and 2 combinable weapons!

Altogether, a great cross promotion between Hasbro and Xiaomi to bring a unique and exclusive figure to fans of both companies!
